Fashion Week diary: Tuesday - Stuff

What's hot: Every garment from the Sabatini White winter collection for 2012. It artfully mixed leather with merino to create a range of sexy yet sophisticated daywear, cocktail frocks and floor-length gowns fit for the red carpet. All of which were made in New Zealand too.

What's not: No Trelise Cooper Kids show on this year's schedule. Cooper has ditched her children's clothing label because it's not making money. Instead, she's launching a new fashion-forward label, COOP, on the catwalk today pitched at the 20-somethings market.

Whisper: Crane Brothers has become the first New Zealand fashion label to produce a suit made of fine Escorial wool. Ironically, the luxury fibre is grown in New Zealand and Australia but, until now, has been used only by European luxury brands including Brioni and Chanel. Brioni's Escorial suits can cost up to $20,000. Murray Crane says his suits won't be as expensive but it will be "price on application". Crane Brothers' Escorial collection of suits and dinner jackets, including a tuxedo, will be part of tomorrow's weddings show.

Fashion emergency: Fashion media stranded in New York when they are supposed to be here due to airports being closed by Hurricane Irene.

Quote of the day: Andrea Moore, who is showing on the catwalk at 2pm today: "My range is inspired by a line in John Berendt's book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, where he describes a character as 'having eyes so black they were like tinted windows in a sleek limousine', though in the workroom we're calling it 'dark, sparkly glamour'."

Best goody-bag: Sabatini - black and white knit scarf, Kitchen Aid silicone spoon spatula, Whittaker's chocolate, Smashbox lip-enhancing gloss and L'Oreal Professional Paris thermo-protective hairspray.

Celebrity front row: New Zealand's Next Top Model judge Colin Mathura-Jeffree, who is Fashion Week's official ambassador this year.

On the catwalk today: Ingrid Starnes, COOP, Black Luxe, Andrea Moore, Hailwood, Starfish, Annah Stretton, Juliette Hogan, Salasai and Twenty-Seven Names.

On the catwalk tomorrow: Ruby, Liam, Celine Rita, Jimmy D, New Zealand Weddings (including Crane Brothers, Sera Lily, John Zimmermann and Anna Schimmel), Lonely Hearts, Trelise Cooper and Stolen Girlfriends Club.
