Sass and Bide, unsurprisingly, dominated on last night's Myer black carpet, with the girls behind the label and fashion's most influential scenester (and consultant for the label) Pip Edwards wearing the brand, alongside a casual but pop-bright Mia Freedman and a host of other social-set types. Perhaps because of their denim origins, or the tendency of the tribal warrior/sexy pirate aesthetic to sparkle brightest in the sunshine, I wouldn't instantly associate the label with evening wear, but for the night, it worked well, particularly their more intensely bright pieces.
Manning Cartell got the coup of the night, dressing Jennifer Hawkins in a boldly striped, beaded mini, while Magdalena Velevska, in one of her own creations, was to my eye, the best dressed of the evening.
Black, silky things proved popular with many attendees, but as is often the case with these things, those that took the biggest risks reaped the highest sartorial rewards.
