The fashion-savvy rapper reportedly plans to debut his own luxury women's wear collection during New York Fashion Week in September, teaming up with British designer Louise Goldin to produce the new label, sources say.
West, who has become something of a front-row fixture at fashion shows each season, has been working with Goldin on his line of ready-to-wear clothing for months, operating from two studios in East London and New York, Grazia magazine reported.
No stranger to the design world, the 34-year-old "Power" singer has spent the last few years getting behind the scenes at luxury fashion houses, taking internships with top labels Fendi and Raf Simmons and unveiling a shoe collaboration with Louis Vuitton.
In 2008 he launched Pastelle, a line of urban-inspired streetwear that never reached stores.
Goldin, who has already expressed interest in bringing her own label to New York, is known for her colorful prints and knits.
The collaboration has already caught the attention of some critics including Louise Wilson, professor at London fashion school Central St. Martins.
"There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, [but] I don't believe this will be the case he researches thoroughly and is hands-on and committed to his work," she told the Guardian.
Another possible partnership for Kanye? Kate Moss. The Mirror reports that the rapper has his eyes on the British supermodel to front his new line.
"Now he's venturing fully into fashion, he thinks Kate's the perfect front woman for his brand," a source told the Mirror.
